Creation Of Pippo Math

Here's a look into how I brought Pippo Math to life through branding.

Brand Identity: Where Learning Meets Adventure

When designing Pippo Math, I wanted the branding to feel playful, engaging, and educational. Something that would immeediately attract children aged 6-10 while maintaining a professionala nd trustworthy feel for parents and educators. The challenge was to create a brand that balancaed fun and learning, making math feel like an adventure.

Why "Pippo" Is the Perfect Fit

The name "Pippo" was chosen among the other alternatives such as, Doozy, Jibbo, Bimpy, etc . It had the most impression on me. It sounds friendly, energetic, and memorable, perfect for a mascot-driven educational game. I wanted a name that would resonate with kids, something that could stick with them as they grow up. The kind of name that, years later, would spark nostalgia when they hear it again. Adding "Math" to the name gives a straightforward purpose of the game, emphasizing that it’s all about creating a learning experience.

Visual Identity

Pippo Math's visual identity evolved through multiple stages. My goal was to create a fun, approachable, and educational look, but achieving the perfect elements required testing different colors, fonts, and logo styles before settling on the final version.

Color Palette

I aim to have bright & energetic, yet soft colors to create a sense of excitement and positivity. Initially, I experimented with softer pastel colors like #92A8D1 (muted blue), #F1E6D2 (soft beige), and #62605C (light grey) to create a friendly, playful tone. However, after I implemented them in the design, I realized they lacked the energy and vibrancy needed to engage young learners.

Through testing and feedback, I shifted to a brighter, high-contrast palette that felt more dynamic and fun. The final colors—#FF6F61 (coral red), #F7CAC9 (soft pink), #92A8D1 (blue), #88B04B (green), #F9C74F (yellow), and #F1E6D2 (beige)—strike a balance between playfulness and readability, with white as the background to keep the interface clean and visually appealing.

This iterative approach helped me refine the visual identity to make Pippo Math feel exciting, engaging, and optimized for young users.

Typography

For the typography, I'm going for kid-friendly style that is readable. Initially, I chose Schoolbell, a hand-drawn, playful font that evoked the feel of children's handwriting. While it aligned with the school theme, it proved to be too thin and lacked sufficient readability. Feedback highlighted that the font felt more like an early concept rather than a polished, final choice. After further testing, I chose Fredoka One, a rounded, bold font that enhanced legibility without sacrificing the playful and approachable look I aimed for. This final selection not only improved readability but also reinforced the friendly nature of the brand.

Mascot

Mascots can form an emotional connection with young learners, creating a sense of trust and familiarity that encourages ongoing interaction with the content. By incorporating a mascot, the app becomes more than just a tool for learning—it becomes a companion that guides children through the educational process, making them feel supported and motivated. This approach also enables the app to maintain a consistent and approachable identity, where the mascot acts as a recognizable symbol that children can easily relate to and remember, fostering a deeper connection with the content.

The hand logo was chosen to reflect this approach. The hand serves as a powerful symbol of guidance, support, and active involvement, all integral components of the educational process. In this context, it signifies the importance of hands-on learning, where children are not just passive recipients of information, but active participants in their educational journey. It encapsulates both the educational and gamified aspects of the app which highlights its emphasis on interactive learning.

The design process for the logo followed an iterative approach, starting with rough sketches and progressing through several stages before arriving at the final design. The initial logo concepts were unfinished and unpolished, capturing the basic idea but lacking clarity and refinement. These early iterations allowed for exploring different directions, ensuring that the core elements aligned with the app's goals. As the design evolved, the mascot became bolder and more defined, ensuring it was both engaging and easily recognizable. The final logo is a bold representation of the mascot, symbolizing both the app's educational mission and its playful, interactive nature.
